2006 Honda CRF450RStreet-Legal Conversion

Adapting a legendary, high-performance motocross machine for regular road riding. Operating a pure race bike on the street requires precise maintenance and mechanical sympathy — balancing explosive performance with street reliability.

The Project

The CRF450R is a machine with absolutely no compromises — built for the motocross track, stripped of everything unnecessary. Putting one on the road is a test of mechanical understanding and respect for what the bike actually is.

This project focuses on optimizing the bike's raw power and classic carburetion for the tarmac. The Keihin 41mm FCR flat-slide carburettor demands careful jetting and regular attention — there is no fuel injection to smooth over lazy throttle inputs or poor setup. It rewards precision.

It's a hands-on exercise in mechanical purity — lightweight, uncompromising, and incredibly engaging compared to any modern street bike. The aluminium twin-spar frame and Showa suspension deliver feedback that's completely alien to road-spec motorcycles.
