Balance Point

Closed-course motorcycle pitch HUD for iPhone and Android. Help, common questions, and how to get hold of me.

Balance Point app icon

A sunlight-readable handlebar HUD that shows how far back the bike is and how long you held it where you wanted it. Haptics only, so it still works in gloves and wind.

Getting started

Mount the phone in portrait, screen toward you, in a bar mount you trust at full throttle. If the status pill reads MOUNT IN PORTRAIT, the phone is on its side.

Calibrate before every session. Sit on the bike the way you ride it, hands on the bars, and hold still for three seconds. That posture becomes 0°, and every angle after it is measured from there. Re-calibrate whenever you remount the phone, swap bikes, or come back another day.

Practice without the bike. The TRAIN tab is a simulator on the phone — same target and window, no motorcycle, throttle and brake under your thumbs. Use it at a desk to feel how little input holds the window. It is not a riding lesson.

The three angles

TARGET — The balance point you are chasing. The window sits around it.

WINDOW — The band either side of target that counts as being there. ±2° to start.

GATE — Sits well below target and starts the loft timer. The window always stays at least 1° above it.

Colours and clocks

Blue means below the window and still coming up. Green means inside it, which is the balance point. Red means past it — the screen flashes and the phone pulses, so get off the throttle.

Every run gets a card the moment the wheel lands, showing time at the balance point, how long you were up, and your peak angle. Nobody reads a screen mid-run, so the review happens afterwards. Nothing is shared or ranked — your times stay on your phone.

Common questions

The angle shows --.-° or WAITING FOR SENSORS

The app needs a real phone: a simulator or emulator has no gravity stream. On a device, check it is mounted in portrait and give it a second to settle.

The angles look wrong

Almost always a stale baseline. If the header reads CHECK BASELINE, it is over 12 hours old or was set on a different mount. Tap RE-CALIBRATE on RIDE, or CALIBRATE LEVEL on SETUP, while sitting on the bike.

What is BP time?

The green clock counts only the seconds spent inside the window, which is the actual skill. The yellow clock above it counts the whole loft from the gate, which is easy by comparison.

Tapping a stat does not reset it

That is deliberate. A gloved knuckle on a moving bike should not be able to wipe a personal best, so reset is a long press.

Where did my run list go?

RUNS covers the current session only and is never written to disk. Best times, best BP time and peak angle do persist.

Does it track my location?

No. No GPS, camera, microphone, account or analytics. Nothing leaves the phone.

Is there a subscription?

One purchase. No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription.
